Acta Comeniana 37

Lucie Storchová, Vladimír Urbánek (eds.)

The volume brings innovative studies on the intellectual history of the early modern period and reviews of recent foreign and domestic literature. Among the studies, particular mention should be made of an innovative, wide-ranging contribution by Stefano Gulizia (Milano), who explores the phenomenon of private libraries and scholarly practices of reading and writing in the circle of the University of Helmstedt. Jan Čížek (Ostrava) analyses Comenius' natural philosophy in the context of mosaic physics. Dominik Whittaker (Brno) discusses the comparison of the concepts of faith and reason in Comenius and Pierre Bayle. Kepler's reception of the Rosicrucian manifestos is discussed by Jiří Michalík. Dalibor Vik (Prague) examines Patočka's interpretation of Comenius' works, especially the relationship between his early writings and the General Consultation. The volume is suitably complemented by one review study by Kateřina Lochmannová (Prague-Ostrava) and six reviews of recent literature.

In English. The studies are accompanied by English abstracts and Czech summaries.
